Boulders Beach, near Simon’s Town in Cape Town’s False Bay, is world famous because visitors are able to share the sand with the resident colony of African penguins. But what if there’s a better, unforgettable way to observe these highly endangered (and very charming) birds?

Most visitors to the beach pay a fee (it is a protected area, with strict access control) and observe the penguins from a distance, from raised wooden walkways. The more adventurous might tramp down to the beach, clambering over and under rocks to get closer to the penguins. While this is permitted, interaction with and feeding the penguins are strictly prohibited.

But your Travel Architect can arrange an altogether more private, intimate treat for you: viewing the penguins from the ocean on a guided kayaking experience, where you will learn about their endangered status and what is being done to protect them.

It’s a quiet, low-impact and special experience, away from the crowds and even closer to the penguins, which will invariably be swimming in and out of the cove around you, doing their natural penguin thing.
